Jana Mihelj achieved her Classical Philology and Italian degree at the Philosophy Faculty of Ljubljana -
Slovenia in 1980
Majk Mulaček became an Engineer in Agriculture in 1980 and later completed his studies in Sociology
and Philosophy at the Philosophy Faculty of Ljubljana -Slovenia
We are based in Koper - Slovenia. In late 70`s we started experimenting in various forms of ceramics
techniques. From the 80`s we became freelance artists making Mosaic, Sculpture, Architectural
interventions and artistic ceramics. On average we hold in last 20 years about 2-3 exhibitions a year of
our works, individual or group.
ABOUT THE MOSAICS
The mosaic tiles we use are made from ceramics. We make and design the tiles we work
with, The colour palette is almost unlimited. The technology we apply is a result of our
studies and experience. They differ in consideration of the use they are meant to (floor,
wall, pool, picture, sculpture mosaic).
ABOUT THE SCULPTURES
The sculptures are made from 2 times burnt, coloured and glazed clay. It is difficult to
explain the works in few words, anyway:
behind every sculpture or a sculpture installation there is a concise idea which can take
months (or years) to develop in a concrete result - a sculpture. That is why the name of the
work is absolutely linked to the piece. Strangely ( ! ?), the thing seems to turn always in
some political, philosophical or satirical meaning, for ex. - Archeology of the Will, Games
without Frontiers.
We don`t believe in Repetition. Repetition is not a Style as it seems today, when art just
copies the industrial proceedings in making likeable products.
The material is just there, waiting for the right hand.
